Uptake of hepatitis B vaccination among nursing students in Cameroon: a mixed-methods study.

Three purposively identified nursing education institutions (Ayos, EITMS/GS, and the Virginia Henderson Foundation) in the Centre Region of Cameroon. To evaluate the psychological, socio-cognitive, economic, and institutional factors associated with hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine uptake among nursing students. A mixed-methods cross-sectional study was conducted between June and July 2025. Quantitative data (n = 325) were collected via self-administered electronic surveys, supplemented by qualitative focus group discussions. Quantitative analysis was performed using SPSS. Qualitative themes were synthesised via a hybrid inductive-deductive thematic analysis, using QCAmap. HBV vaccination was critically low at 29.54%, with only 50.04% of those vaccinated completing the full three-dose series. Multivariate analysis identified female gender, age, advanced study level, a solid knowledge level, high perceived self-efficacy, low vaccine-related anxiety, and encouragement from the educational institution as significant predictors of uptake. Qualitative findings highlighted as primary barriers: prohibitive costs, inadequate information, weak institutional mandates, and traditional prejudices. Immunisation rates among high-risk nursing students are alarmingly insufficient. To mitigate occupational risk, public health policy should mandate HBV vaccination at school matriculation and implement subsidies to facilitate economic access together with systematic sensitisation.

Associations of sedentary behavior and physical activity with serum uric acid in middle-aged and older adults with and without chronic kidney disease.

Elevated serum uric acid (UA) level is a major health risk, and its accumulation is exacerbated by impaired renal function. Physical activity is a modifiable determinant of serum UA levels. This study used an isotemporal substitution model to examine the associations of reallocating time between activity behaviors with serum UA levels in middle-aged and older adults with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD). A total of 294 middle-aged and older adults with and without CKD (45-85 years) were recruited. Sedentary behavior (SB), light-intensity physical activity (LPA), and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) were objectively measured using a triaxial accelerometer. Serum UA levels were assessed from fasting blood samples. Higher SB and lower LPA were significantly associated with elevated serum UA levels. In contrast, MVPA was not significantly associated with serum UA levels. In isotemporal substitution models, replacing 30 min/day of SB with an equivalent duration of LPA was associated with lower serum UA levels (β = -0.057, P = 0.008). Substituting SB with MVPA was not significantly associated with serum UA levels (β = 0.048, P = 0.466). Stratified analyses revealed that the substitution of SB with LPA was significantly associated with lower serum UA levels among participants with CKD, whereas no significant association was observed among those without CKD. SB was associated with higher serum UA levels, whereas LPA demonstrated a favorable association. Replacing 30 min/day of SB with LPA was associated with lower serum UA levels, particularly among individuals with CKD.

Complete Hepatitis B Vaccination Among Health Care Professionals in Ethiopia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Primary Evidence.

Despite the critical importance of HBV vaccination and Ethiopia's high burden of infection, no recent comprehensive review has synthesized data on vaccination coverage and its associated factors among Ethiopian healthcare workers. This study aimed to determine the pooled prevalence of complete Hepatitis B Virus vaccination coverage among healthcare professionals in Ethiopia. We searched primary articles across several databases: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, EMBASE, African Journals Online, and the Global Health database. Article screening, data extraction, and quality assessment were performed independently by two reviewers. We thoroughly assessed heterogeneity and publication bias, and performed subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and trim-and-fill analysis. The pooled estimate for full vaccination coverage among healthcare professionals was calculated using a random-effects model with a 95% CI. Following a rigorous selection process, 18 primary articles involving a total of 6,167 participants were included in the final analysis. The pooled prevalence of complete vaccination against the Hepatitis B virus was found to be 29.90% (95% CI: 21.53-38.26), with considerable heterogeneity observed across the included studies (I2 = 98.6%). The pooled prevalence of complete Hepatitis B virus vaccination among healthcare professionals in Ethiopia remains suboptimal. Initiatives focused on encouraging vaccination, empowering healthcare workers with knowledge, and ensuring the vaccine is accessible and provided free of charge are recommended.

Psychological variables and personality traits associated with awake and sleep bruxism: A cross-sectional study.

Previous studies addressed the relationship between developing bruxism and personality traits yielded relatively inconsistent results. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate this relationship. 117 underwent psychological testing to assess trait anxiety, state anxiety, anger, and depression using STAI-T (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (trait)), STAI-S (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (state)), STAXI (State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory), and BDI-II (Beck Depression Inventory test). Personality trait was identified using the 20-item Big Five personality trait questionnaire. Awake bruxism (AB) and sleep bruxism (SB) were identified using electromyography and polysomnography, respectively, excluding participants with psychiatric distress. SB was associated with anxiety trait, whereas, AB was associated with state anxiety and depression. Moreover, AB was associated with neurotic personality, whereas SB was associated with conscientiousness. The findings suggest that AB and SB may present different psychological and personality-related profiles. However, longitudinal studies are needed to clarify whether these associations have etiological or clinical relevance.

[Rational design and translational applications of hepatitis B virus-like particles].

Hepatitis B virus-like particles (HBV-VLPs), characterized by precise biomimetic topological architecture and favorable biocompatibility, have become a highly promising cutting-edge carrier in nanomedicine and immune engineering. This article systematically summarizes the latest research progress in HBV-VLPs, with focuses on the structural biological characteristics and assembly mechanisms of hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg) and hepatitis B core antigens (HBcAg) of HBV and the engineering strategies for expression platforms and surface functionalization modifications. In view of the challenges of assembly heterogeneity and immune response differences in the clinical applications of HBV-VLPs, this article predicts the application prospects of VLPs in reversing immune tolerance of chronic hepatitis B and constructing a liver-targeted intelligent delivery platform. Considering our empirical research on the construction of bivalent chimeric VLPs and their activation of humoral and cellular immunity, this article discusses the translational potential of transferring the multivalent co-display strategy to the HBV-VLPs system for solving immune escape. Finally, we propose a design concept for VLPs from artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted computational structural biology, aiming to provide a theoretical basis and design ideas for the development of the next generation of efficient, controllable, and multifunctional nanobiologics.

High-throughput in silico multi-epitope reverse vaccine design against hydatidosis.

The Middle East is a significant hotspot for human hydatidosis caused by Echinococcus granulosus, a complex multi-stage pathogen exhibiting antigenic variation with diverse epitopes. Multi-epitope vaccines, designed using immunoinformatics, represent a promising approach to effectively control this challenging parasite. A total of 1150 secreted, non-toxic, antigenic proteins were obtained from database and analyzed for their immunogenic potential, leading to the identification of 1024 CTL, 80 HTL, and 172 LBL prioritized epitopes, which were then ranked and clustered to prefer the most immunogenicity epitopes to include in novel vaccine construct. The chosen Construct (Con2) was modified for dual-plasmid insertion, facilitating the expression of three different vaccine constructs which were predicted by C-ImmSim to stimulate robust IFN-γ/IL-2 production and enhance IgM/IgG antibody secretion. Utilizing in silico, next-generation vaccine design, we propose several vaccine candidates that warrant further validation through in vitro laboratory testing and in vivo studies to assess their immunological efficacy.
