June 18, 2026: Kiora Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: KPRX) reported preclinical epilepsy data for KIO-300 (the active pharmaceutical ingredient of KIO-301, its ongoing Phase 2 vision restoration program in gene mutation-agnostic retinitis pigmentosa). In a poster presented at the Epilepsy Foundation Pipeline Conference (June 18–19, 2026; Leesburg, VA), KIO-300 significantly suppressed seizure-associated electrophysiological activity in an ex vivo temporal lobe epilepsy model using hippocampal CA1 slices from mice with induced TLE.

Key findings: KIO-300 reduced spontaneous epileptiform event frequency versus vehicle, with statistically significant inhibition beginning 42 minutes after treatment (p<0.0001), and significantly reduced cumulative epileptiform burden (p<0.0001). The suppressive effect persisted during treatment and washout, suggesting prolonged tissue retention, and did not impair broader electrical transmission, indicating specificity for abnormal spontaneous activity.

The company said it may explore epilepsy and other neurological disorders as potential applications outside ophthalmology, where it retains full development and commercialization rights.
