November 5, 2026: Akebia Therapeutics (NASDAQ: AKBA) reported Q3 2026 business updates centered on Vafseo (vadadustat) for anemia due to CKD in dialysis patients and its rare kidney disease pipeline. Vafseo net product revenue was $14.8 million in Q3 2026; active patients reached about 11,500 at quarter-end, up about 140% vs. Q3 2025 and 8.1% vs. Q2 2026, though revenue was affected by inventory reduction at its largest customer and TDAPA-related market dynamics.
For vadadustat, Akebia said November topline results from the open-label VOCAL trial showed three-times-weekly dosing was non-inferior to ESA on the primary endpoint of change in hemoglobin in in-center hemodialysis patients with CKD anemia. At ASN Kidney Week in October, late-breaking VOICE data presented by U.S. Renal Care showed statistically significant improvement versus ESA on a hierarchical composite of all-cause mortality and hospitalization, driven by reduced hospitalization.
In the pipeline, Akebia said the first patient was dosed in September in a Phase 2 open-label basket trial of ebribafusp alfa in C3 glomerulopathy, lupus nephritis, and IgA nephropathy; initial data are expected in 2027. Akebia also presented ASN posters on praliciguat in FSGS and the ebribafusp program. Cash and cash equivalents were about $159.3 million at September 30, 2026.
