September 8, 2026: Surrozen, Inc. (NASDAQ: SRZN) announced submission of an IND application to the FDA for SZN-8141 in diabetic macular edema (DME). SZN-8141 is a bifunctional antibody designed to combine Frizzled 4-mediated Wnt agonism with VEGF antagonism.
The company said SZN-8141 will be studied in DUET, a Phase 1b/2a trial in DME evaluating safety, tolerability, and early biological and clinical activity. Surrozen expects to initiate DUET by year-end 2026, with initial data anticipated in the second half of 2027.
Preclinical data cited in the release showed SZN-8141 reduced neovascularization and promoted retinal revascularization versus either Wnt agonist or anti-VEGF monotherapy in a rodent retinal vascular disease model, and produced greater reductions in vascular leakage than anti-VEGF therapy in a rodent neovascular age-related macular degeneration model.
Surrozen said it is developing SZN-8141 for both DME and neovascular age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD).
