September 8, 2026: Coya Therapeutics (NASDAQ: COYA) announced publication of preclinical data for COYA 303, an investigational combination of low-dose IL-2 and a GLP-1 receptor agonist, in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. In a subacute low-dose LPS mouse model relevant to neurodegenerative disease-associated inflammation, the combination showed broader immunomodulatory effects than either monotherapy.
Compared with monotherapy, COYA 303 significantly reduced peripheral pro-inflammatory myeloid IL-6 and TNF transcript expression and increased ARG1, while also increasing Treg-associated IL-2Ra/CD25, TGF-b1, and CTLA-4 transcripts. In cortical and hippocampal tissue, the combination significantly reduced IL-6 and IL-1b and increased CD163 and CD206, markers associated with anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages. Treatment began 24 hours after the first LPS dose, after inflammatory induction had started.
Coya said the findings support further evaluation of COYA 303 and combination immunomodulatory approaches in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, including ALS and FTD. The company also said it plans to pursue non-dilutive funding and potential partnerships to advance the COYA 303 program.
