August 27, 2026: AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN) and Amgen reported positive high-level Phase III CROSSING results for TEZSPIRE (tezepelumab-ekko) in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). In the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, both TEZSPIRE doses met both co-primary endpoints at week 24 versus placebo: histologic remission and improvement in dysphagia symptoms measured by the Dysphagia Symptom Questionnaire. The improvements were described as statistically significant and clinically meaningful and were sustained through week 52; all key secondary endpoints were also met.
CROSSING enrolled 368 patients aged 12-80 with symptomatic, histologically active EoE, with dosing every four weeks versus placebo. Histologic remission was defined as peak esophageal eosinophil count of 6 or fewer eosinophils per high-power field. Patients could remain on stable background EoE medications including proton pump inhibitors and swallowed topical corticosteroids.
The safety profile was generally consistent with TEZSPIRE’s approved indications. The companies said full results will be presented at an upcoming medical meeting and shared with regulatory authorities.
Also noted: TEZSPIRE is already approved for severe asthma and CRSwNP, and Phase III COPD trials JOURNEY and EMBARK are ongoing.
