Aug. 17, 2026: Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (NASDAQ: GLMD) reported preclinical prostate cancer data for Aramchol in combination with Xtandi (enzalutamide). In a VCaP prostate cancer cell line model with high wild-type androgen receptor expression, AR-V7 splice variant, and TMPRSS2-ERG fusion, the combination produced a 3–4-fold increase in cell death versus enzalutamide alone; Galmed said the interaction strengthened with longer drug exposure.

The company said the findings support further evaluation of Aramchol, an SCD1 inhibitor, with approved prostate cancer therapies, including enzalutamide (with or without a GnRH analogue) and potentially later with docetaxel. Galmed also referenced prior preclinical work showing synergistic interaction between Aramchol and docetaxel in tumor types including prostate cancer.

As a business catalyst, Galmed said it recently submitted a patent application covering the Aramchol/enzalutamide combination and plans to initiate discussions with potential partners. The release also noted Xtandi patent expirations in Europe in 2026 and the U.S. in 2027, and a U.S. price cut scheduled to begin in 2027.
