August 4, 2026: Moderna, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRNA) announced first dosing in a first-in-human Phase 1 trial of mRNA-1469, an investigational mRNA vaccine for prevention of Bundibugyo ebolavirus (BDBV) disease, after Health Canada authorized the study. The trial (NCT07737717) is being run at three sites in Canada and is expected to enroll about 80 healthy adults to assess safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity.

The program is part of Moderna’s expanded collaboration with CEPI, which has committed up to $50 million to support preclinical work and the Phase 1 study, as well as parallel manufacturing of additional clinical-trial doses. The companies said this could enable rapid initiation of Phase 2 and Phase 3 studies if Phase 1 results support further development.

The release states there is currently no approved vaccine for BDBV, the Ebola virus responsible for the active outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It cites more than 3,000 confirmed cases and more than 1,400 deaths. Moderna also said that, if licensed, it will make available at least 500,000 doses for low- and middle-income countries under access pricing.
